I need some expert opinions on our situation. My mother-in-law was experiencing chest pains in early 2022. She goes in and gets a few scans done. Nurse calls the next day and just says they “found something” want to bring her back in for a follow up. Unsure what the results of the follow up would be, that evening she gets a $500K 10 year term policy. She answered truthfully that she was a lifetime smoker and at that point had never been diagnosed with any cancer. Goes to her follow up 2 months later and is diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. She just passed a few weeks ago, ~30 months after the policy was in force. Will the insurance company deny the claim even though it is after the 2 year contestability period? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve been a life insurance agent for 20 years. Once 30 months pass after the policy is issued, you’re in the clear. The 2-year contestability period is over, so even if you lied about everything, they still have to pay. Just relax and submit your claim.
Depends on the company and state, but you’re probably in the clear.
I’m sorry for your loss. If she answered honestly, there shouldn’t be any issues. This is a good reminder to get insurance while you’re young and healthy. I hope you and your husband have coverage in place.
We are in Arkansas. The insurance company is EMC National?
It sounds like she didn’t answer truthfully since further testing was recommended and not complete. Shouldn’t matter after 2 years tho.
Thank you for the response!
Wow, your mother in law was a very shrewd lady. Please keep us updated on how the claim goes!
