UK- HIV PrEP- do I need to declare

I am in the UK and wish to get on HiV PrEP. I am not HIV positive and have private life insurance (Zurich). Do I need to declare I am on this drug and will it affect any claim if I do not declare?

If you get a doctor to prescribe this for you after the policy is in effect it shouldn’t matter, but I am not an expert on UK insurance rules.

Wait you already have insurance? If it’s in force, no. Of course not. If it’s a new app, yes, because they will find out in any case.

Any medical condition must be declared, or the risks leading you to consider taking the medication. If not any future claim will be denied. When in doubt, ask Reddit !

I’ve had the insurance for a few years now. I can’t find anything in the documents that says it’s a problem, but I want to know if I’m supposed to report any changes. If I file a claim, could this be an issue, and will they check my records?

Okay, your underwriting is done and dusted. Anything past that 2 year mark is fine. You’re golden.

In the UK, if you’re taking HIV PrEP and have private life insurance with Zurich or another provider, review your policy terms. Insurers usually ask you to declare medications or treatments that might affect your health or risk. Even though taking HIV PrEP isn’t the same as being HIV positive, not reporting it could affect your claims, especially if a health issue comes up later.

It’s best to contact Zurich or talk to a financial adviser to understand what you need to do. This will help you avoid problems if you ever need to make a claim.
