Hi, I recently went through a quote request process with an insurance company and provided them with details about my health and medical history. However, I wasn’t happy with the quote I received, so I decided not to go with that company.
Now, I’m considering going through the quote process with a different insurance company, and I’m wondering if they’ll have access to all the health and medical details I shared with the previous company, even though I didn’t take out insurance with them.
Do insurance companies share this kind of personal information, or is my data private to the first company? Any insights or experiences you have regarding this would be really helpful. Thanks in advance

Depends on the information you are sharing and the entities you are sharing with. Before you share any information, ask them what they will do with your information and what is their security policy. If they are unable to provide satisfactory answers to your questions, then don’t share anything.

I do not think so. I’m in Quebec, and over here insurance companies must keep data that have been collected confidential. At least the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act prevents exploitation of data that has been provided to Private companies.

Companies generally don’t share personal details from quote requests without consent. However, they might use your data internally or with partners for marketing or service purposes, so review privacy policies.
